FUEL FLOW MONITORING SYSTEM CHECKS PERFORMANCE AND SAVES CASH
In addition to reducing installation time and cost, the new Series K
fuel flow monitoring system from FloScan Instrument Company, Inc.
provides the skipper with precise, electronic measurements of fuel
consumption, regardless of sea conditions. And now, the system
can be used on diesels as small as 25 hp, making it ideal for cruising
sailors. Utilizing either standard- or high-flow sensors in the feed
and return lines, and a computerized meter, the FloScan Series K
measures flow at the engine, not at the fuel tank. Unlike
competitive sensors with steel bearings, FloScan's sensors incorporate
sapphire jewel bearings for infinite life and accurate readings of how
much and how fast fuel is being consumed. The Series K system can save
anywhere from 10% to 30% in fuel costs by helping the skipper to
determine the optimum boat speed for maximum fuel efficiency.
Top-of-the-line models obtain boat speed from the GPS to show
instantaneous fuel efficiency directly in nautical miles-per-gallon.
The system also keeps an eye on engine and drive train performance.
If the GPH/NMPG reading varies from what has already been determined
to be the most efficient point, the engine may have
fouled injectors, the prop could be damaged, or other engine or drive
train problems may be indicated. Another benefit for do-it-yourself
skippers is the ease of installation of the units. What used to
take trained technicians several hours to do can be accomplished by a
moderately skilled owner with simple tools. Complete
installation instructions come with every Series K product.
FloScan makes fuel flow monitoring systems
for diesel and gasoline engines from 25 to 4,300 hp. The
suggested retail prices of the Series K systems range from $910 to
$2,290.
