Description:
The Grand Banks 42 Classic is
regarded by many as "the perfect" vessel for those choosing to
live a cruising lifestyle. The original design by Ken Smith has
been amended and updated throughout the years of production
(1966 to 2006) with the practical input of her proud owners. The
experience gained since laying of the first keel is reflected in
each one ever commissioned. One of the most significant
modifications to the 42 Classic was when it received a six inch
wider and longer hull beginning with hull #1204 in late 1991.
This GB is hull #1268, built in Singapore and completed in
November of 1992 (1993 model year) and benefited from such
improvements. The Grand Banks semi displacement hull design,
with a fine entry forward, hard chines aft and a full keel, has
been proven on the waters around the world. A semi-displacement
hull strikes a good balance between a full displacement and
planning hull. The keel provides great directionally stability
at all speeds, and when running a!
t hull speed it is as stable and as economical as most full
displacement designs. The key advantage to the semi displacement
hull design is that when enough power is applied, this hull will
achieve more lateral stability.
The Classic is legendary for her incredibly sensible approach to
cruising. Everything about her was designed to enhance the
cruising experience. From her wide walk around decks to her
convenient dinghy storage to her large aft lazarette and wide
teak swim platform, the Classic makes cruising safer, easier,
and more enjoyable.
One of the most outstanding design features is her spacious aft
cabin which is separated from the rest of the boat. This master
stateroom offers a level of privacy that is unusual on boats of
this size. Complete with a private Sealand Vacuflush head and
separated stall shower, the aft cabin offers the convenience and
comfort of walk around queen size island bed with a brand new
custom Handcrafted Mattress. A custom split level hanging locker
that was designed to accommodate full length garments is located
centerline at the most forward area of the cabin. Solid teak
dovetail drawers and built in teak cabinets provide multiple
options for clothing for extended trips, truly a surprising
amount of storage on a boat this size.
The forward stateroom is complete with a Sealand Vacuflush head,
shower, hanging locker and an abundance of drawers and shelves,
making it a comfortable, livable area, stainless steel deep
freezer below v-berth. Locating this guest stateroom at the
opposite end of the boat from the owners cabin, the Classics'
layout offers the ideal solution for privacy when cruising with
other adult guests.
Dining entertaining and relaxing couldn't be more enjoyable when
the crew and guests gather in the Classics main salon. Whether
at anchor, in a marina or underway, the main salon offers a
wonderful view of the world outside. Two doors, one to port and
one starboard, provide easy access to the wide side decks, and
the large side windows slide open for plenty of cross
ventilation. The L-shaped settee area features a beautifully
crafted 54" rectangular shaped hi-low table with built in
storage compartments, another Grand Banks signature of quality.
Two upholstered teak chairs centerline provide additional
seating for meals. The aft port side of the salon is the
location of the second Grunert refrigeration/freezer unit and a
straight settee.
The adjoining galley is fit for a gourmet chef and includes a
Princess electric 3 burner stove/oven & GE microwave. The amount
of counter space, dish stowage and shelving that rivals many
larger vessels.
The flybridge is where you'll find everyone, including the
captain and guests, when the weather is fair. Driving the boat
from the upper helm area is a dream, thanks to the excellent
visibility and well thought out navigation station. Built in
seating, featuring stowage underneath. At anchor the bridge is
the perfect height to view other boats and the surrounding
scenery, making it the popular gathering place for friends,
family and guests. Built in lower helm seat
